What size Himalayan Salt Lamp should I buy?
You have two considerations – how much you are willing to spend, and where exactly you intend to place your lamp. Literally measure the spot where you expect your lamp to be situated. Here is a general guide to the height of the lamps of the various sizes:
Of course, it makes sense that a bigger lamp will have more of an effect on the air than a smaller one, but if the room you intend to place you lamp in is only small, this may not be a concern.
If you would like your Himalayan Salt Lamp to be a source of light, remember that these lights are not very bright, which is why they make great night lights. Also bear in mind that the larger lamps give off more light, particularly if they are fitted with a higher wattage bulb (i.e. 25 as opposed to 15 W), so larger lamps are definitely better in this case.
How long do Himalayan Salt Lamps last?
As long as you keep the light’s fixtures and fittings in good order, these lamps should effectively last forever.
What is Himalayan Salt?
Himalayan Salt is a variety of rock salt mined in the Punjabi foothills of the Himalayas. It is full of a wide spectrum of salts and minerals (over eighty different elements), but the bulk of it is good old Sodium Chloride (salt).
Why are Himalayan Salt Lamps different colours?
Every Himalayan Salt Lamp is unique. The salt deposits are not uniform, they are filled with striations of various concentrations of minerals, giving each lamp a unique colouring and pattern.
Can I leave my Himalayan Salt Lamp on all the time?
Yes, definitely. They are designed for continuous use. If you want to use it as a night-light, you may consider buying an orange bulb to reduce the level of illumination from your lamp.
Does my Himalayan Salt Lamp need cleaning?
Simply wipe your salt lamp with a damp cloth every few weeks to keep it in tip-top form. Do not immerse in water or put under running water – you lamp will dissolve.
My Himalayan Salt Lamp is warm. Is this normal?
Yes absolutely. They are designed to warm gently with the heat of the bulb and this increases the ionising/hygrosopic effect of the salt.
My Himalayan Salt Lamp is damp or producing water. Is this normal?
Yes. In humid or damp conditions the salt lamp will attract more moisture from the air and may become damp or even drip a little. The fittings on most lamps are designed to that this should not affect the performance of the light in any way, but you may want to place the light on a table mat or similar to save varnished surfaces. If your lamp is wet, check regularly to make sure your cables are not getting wet at all. If you cannot make sure of this then do not operate your lamp, but instead buy a de-humidifier to reduce the humidity in your house because there is too much for your lamp.
